(Belva) Grace Kessell Hanning Memorial Scholarship
The Grace Hanning Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to the glory of God for His unconditional love and gift of human salvation through the sacrifice of His only son Jesus Christ. This scholarship is in remembrance of Belva Grace Kessell Hanning and Everette Carl Hanning. In her early years Grace was a schoolteacher and enjoyed this role more than any other in her lifetime. She graduated with the Ripley High School Class of 1941, attended Morris Harvey College (now the University of Charleston), and taught “one-room” schools in Jackson County. Grace highly valued a well-rounded education.
Scholarship Award: The scholarship is in the amount of $1500.00 and will be sent directly to the college or vocational school where the student is enrolled.
Scholarship Application: Graduating high school seniors of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Youth may apply for this scholarship by developing and submitting a current resume that includes the items outlined in the following section. Developing a resume as an application also serves to help the student practice for upcoming job opportunities. Any additional information on your personal walk with Christ is encouraged and should be included. Applications (resumes) should be submitted to a youth leader or the church office by April 1.
Resume Content Items:
- Work experience and/or high school leadership roles while adhering to Christian values and principles (based on school, church, and community service),
- student financial need,
- high school class rank and/or any academic achievements (National Honor Society member, ACT/SAT scores, etc.).
Winner Selection: Applications for this scholarship will be evaluated and a winner announced around May 1.
